THE ENERGY STAR® PROGRAM
The EPA ENERGY STAR Roof Products Program is a voluntary program with roofing materials manufacturers to encourage the promotion of energy star products that meet energy efficiency criteria. This initiative seeks to reduce greenhouse gases by implementing strategies that lower power demand and reduce the impact of Urban Heat Islands. The annual ENERGY STAR Awards acknowledge superior technical accomplishment and public education to raise consumer awareness about products that offer substantial energy and cost savings while contributing to a cleaner environment. National Coatings Corporation is proud to be a Charter Partner of the ENERGY STAR Roof Products Program, and has twice been honored with the ENERGY STAR Certified Partner of the Year Award for notable contributions to energy efficiency.
COOL ROOF RATING COUNCIL
Widespread interest in the substantial benefits of Cool Roofing materials along with increased marketplace demand for Cool Roofs led to the formation of the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC). The CRRC provides a credible system for rating solar reflectance and thermal emittance of new and weathered cool roofing materials; ratings that building code bodies, building owners, energy providers, state air quality offices and the EPA can use in implementing energy code changes, urban development plans, rebate programs and corporate facility policies. National Coatings is proud to be a founding industry member of the CRRC and an active participant on the CRRC Board of Directors.
UNITED STATES GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) was formed with its mission to be “… the nation’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. It is leading a national consensus for producing a new generation of buildings that deliver performance both inside and out.” By creating the LEED Green Building Rating System®, the USGBC has developed the tool building owners need to assess building performance and sustainability. Using a high albedo, highly emissive roof surface green products can enable a candidate building to receive LEED certification and provide added benefits towards the overall performance and sustainability of the building. National Coatings is proud to be a member of the USGBC and offer green products.
COOL COMMUNITIES and CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISION
From Sacramento to Tucson to Salt Lake City and Philadelphia, National Coatings has supported Cool Communities initiatives centered around heat island reduction measures that involve Cool Roofing materials, light colored roads and parking lots, and strategic tree planting, all geared to reduce energy usage and powerplant emissions, improve urban air quality and reduce landfill waste. National Coatings has led the way in providing technical, educational and promotional support to the California Energy Commission for its innovative Cool Roof rebate program and landmark revisions to California’s Title 24 Energy Code.
